HARIPUR: A woman was killed after her husband and in-laws were reported to have set her ablaze at their residence in Tareenabad village in Dingi union council, Haripur.

She has been identified as 22-year-old Saima Bibi.

An official of Kot Najibullah police station told The Express Tribune on Wednesday Alamzeb, the deceased’s father who hails from Takht Bhai, Mardan and lives in Tareenabad, filed a complaint against the incident.

“According to Alamzeb, his daughter was married to Shariq a few months ago,” he said. “Saima Bibi’s father said she often complained that her husband and in-laws did not treat her properly.”

The official said Alamzeb had made repeated attempts to speak to Saima Bibi’s husband and in-laws about this matter.

“However, they failed to change their behaviour towards her and continued subjecting his daughter to domestic violence,” he added.

On February 25, the complainant was told his 22-year-old daughter was hospitalised at District Headquarters Teaching Hospital Haripur after suffering 70% burn injuries.

“When he arrived at the hospital, Saima Bibi was unconscious and badly burnt,” he said. She was later referred to Ayub Teaching Hospital in Abbottabad.

According to the official, when Saima Bibi regained consciousness, she told the police Shariq, his father Suleman, and his mother Malkat Bibi, doused her in petrol and set her on fire after a minor argument.
