Crackdown: ‘43,000 search operations conducted under NAP’
Police impounded 154,490 vehicles that did not have number plates
LAHORE:
There is no room for militancy and sectarianism in the province, Punjab Police IG Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera said on Tuesday.
He was addressing the participants of the 104th National Management Course during their visit to the Central Police Office, Lahore.
“Under the National Action Plan, Punjab Police has conducted 43,739 search operations, questioned 1.3 million people. A total of 7,274 cases were registered during the last 18 months. During this period, police impounded 154,490 vehicles that did not have number plates,” he said.
He said that banned organisations were under strict surveillance and were not allowed to hold any activity.
“Punjab Police is sharing intelligence with other law enforcement agencies to eliminate criminals and terrorists,” he said.
He said that a judicial inquiry was held following every police encounter. “Departmental action is taken against policemen found guilty of staging encounters,” he said. He said that IT based policing had been started. “Projects such as police SMS service, centralised complaint handling centre, digital beat books and computerisation of police station records have been successfully completed,” he said. Additional IG Capt (r) Usman Khattak said that in the first two months of 2016, there had been a marked decrease in murders, sectarian killings, kidnappings for ransom, robberies.
