LAHORE: The Lahore Bar Association (LBA) has called a meeting on Wednesday (today) to devise a plan on proceeding against a foreigner couple accused of beating up some lawyers representing their opponents on court premises a few days ago, LBA president Arshad Jahangir Jhoja told The Express Tribune.

He said justice would be served to those beaten up allegedly by Sara Al-Imam, an Egyptian national, and her husband, Aiman Muhammad.

The couple had been arrested by the police after an FIR was registered against them on the complaint of Advocate Shehzad Dhillon. The FIR included charges of theft and inflicting injury. The theft charges were later dropped.

On Monday night, the couple were released by the police.

Some witnesses told The Tribune that the scuffle between the couple and some lawyers had started after the woman slapped one of the lawyers. They said lawyers involved in the scuffle were from the chambers of Punjab Bar Council member Rana Intizar and former LBA secretary Latif Sara.

Speaking to The Tribune, Intizar and Sara dismissed the suggestion that the couple had been beaten up by any lawyer. They said the couple had assaulted the lawyers, torn their clothes and robbed them of valuables.

Rana Manzoor, the counsel of the couple, said he had left the court by the time the incident took place. He declined further comment on the matter.
