Akshaya and Sriram celebrated their wedding like any other South Indian couple would - until the bride and groom decided to jam to heavy metal.

Members of the Detroit-based Dulhan Brass Band, the couple took the stage to entertain and surprise their audience.

They hadn't initially planned to perform at the wedding the couple told Buzzfeed, but “Since our guitarist was with us at the wedding, we came up with this crazy idea of performing at the wedding. Another friend agreed to do the bass and we were all set.”

It only seemed fitting for the couple to perform at their wedding, since music had brought them together in the first place.

“Performing at our wedding made sense because the band is what brought us together. Our guitarist and a friend who plays the bass flew in for our wedding too," reports Marigoldtales.

“An old school friend who had seen me sing in Bangalore was eager to set me up with two of her desi friends who were jamming in Detroit and looking to expand their band. One of them was Sriram who plays the drums and we discovered that both of us worked at Chrysler. We started dating soon after. After an accelerated few months in our relationship we decided to get married."

Even with the non-traditional bride growling to heavy metal tracks, their families and friends showed their support despite being dumbfounded.

“They all promptly clapped after each song. It was so cute. They were definitely taken aback with the growling. There was no response during those parts.”

“All of us who were in on this wanted to keep everything traditional. Tradition is hipster, nowadays,” Akshaya told BuzzFeed.
