Maximum level: Khanpur Dam spillway opened

More than 6,000 cusecs of water was released on Saturday

KHANPUR: As precautionary measure, the authorities at the Khanpur Dam opened its spillway on Saturday, after it filled up to its maximum conservation level.

The spillway was opened for the first time this year as the water level in the reservoir reached its maximum level of 1,982 feet after heavy rainfall in areas including Murree, Ayubia and other hilly areas in upper Hazara. Officials said that 6,680 cusecs of water was released on Saturday while the inflow was recorded to be at 653 cusecs.

They further said that the currently the water level is 1,879 feet and is continuously increasing as more rain is expected in the next few days.
