KARACHI:

An anti-terrorism court released on Wednesday two workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement after the 'hand grenades' allegedly seized from them turned out to be only ashes.

Mustafa Hussain and Basituz Zaman were charged under the explosives act for possession of bombs. They were arrested during a raid on October 14, 2014.

During the hearing, the investigating officer (IO), SI Khan Muhammad, appeared before the ATC-II judge along with the 'bombs' sealed in a red-colour cloth since they were seized. The judge ordered de-sealing of the case property when the cloth was removed, there were two metal pins and some ash.

The judge expressed his displeasure and observed that the case was either fabricated or poorly investigated. The judge relieved both of the charges and ordered their immediate release while writing a letter to higher judiciary about the police performance.

According to the defense counsel, the suspects were picked up by Rangers from Shah Faisal and Landhi snfd were later handed over to the police and since then have been jailed.
