Sehra takes seven as Karachi triumph

Defeat Quetta by an innings and 16 runs in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Grade II match

KARACHI: A seven-wicket haul by Zohaib Sehra guided Karachi to an impressive innings-and-16-run win over Quetta on the second day of their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (Grade II) clash at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Karachi, who were in their first innings, resumed the day on 271-7 and declared on 296-9 with a lead of 224 runs. Quetta were then torn apart by Sehra’s spell, whose seven wickets guided his side to an emphatic win after restricting the opposition to 208.

“Taking 12 wickets [five in the first innings] in a match is a big thing for me and the joy is made even better because it came against a strong side — Quetta,” Sehra told The Express Tribune after the match. “Our batsmen were great in setting up a strong total which gave the bowlers the confidence to bowl well. I hope to repeat this performance in the next match.”

In another match, a century by Ali Khan and three wickets by Mohammad Kamran helped their side Sialkot defeat DM Jamali by an innings and 54 runs.

Sialkot resumed their first innings on 169-4 and added 216 runs before declaring on 385-7 as Ali made 169 off as many balls. DM Jamali, in their second innings, were restricted to 190 as Kamran took 3-62.

In the match between Bahawalpur and Multan, Test spinner Zulfiqar Babar dismissed six Bahawalpur batsmen to help Multan restrict their opponents on 230 in their first innings.

Bahawalpur resumed their first innings on 26-0 and were able to add 224 runs before Babar demolished their batting line-up, taking 6-49. At the end of day two, Multan were 103-1 at stumps, leading by 238 runs.

In the match between Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Abbottabad, half-centuries by Riaz Khil, Khalilullah and Fawad Malook helped Abbottabad post 292 runs in their first Innings. Khil and Khalilullah scored 59 runs each off 114 and 86 balls respectively, while Malook made 51 off 62.

At the end of play, AJK were 160-4 in their second innings, trailing Abbottabad by 22 runs with Hasan Raza (84) on the crease.
