Review meeting: Rs240m collected by Fisheries Department

Rs1.7 million was collected as fines for fishing without licence

The government has collected Rs240.97 million in 2015-2016 by leasing water, issuing licences for fishing and fining fishermen for fishing without a licence.


During a review meeting on Sunday, Fisheries Director General Muhammad Ayub said 36,425 licences were issued for fishing in 2014-15 and Rs9.21 million was collected as fee. Rs1.7 million was collected as fines for fishing without licence. He said more than 50 million fish seed produced in nurseries and hatcheries of the Fisheries Department had been released in state-owned waters and more than 10 million fish seed were released in privately-owned water channels. Ayub said 297 state-owned water channels in the province were given on lease from which the government collected more than Rs230 million.
