Every 20-something-year-old at some point in their life is hit with a serious case of wanderlust. Travelling is not only guaranteed to broaden your horizons, but will enable you to experience different cultures, languages and cuisines. Your 20's are an ideal time to take an adventure to somewhere far away and have the experience of a lifetime.

Here we look at 9 spots to tick off your list before you turn 30:

1. Sydney, Australia

Dubbed one of the friendliest cities in the world, Sydney is the oldest, biggest, and most beautiful of all Australian cities. The city lies amid a seductive intermingling of land and sea where you can glide along the famous harbour on a ferry, photograph the white sails of the Sydney Opera House or bask in the graceful arch of the Harbour Bridge.

2. London, UK

The burgeoning food scene, museums, theatres, quaint side streets and historic neighbourhoods are just some of the reasons to take a trip to London. It's one of the few cities in the world where history collides with art, fashion and food. With over 15 million tourists visiting the capital city annually, it's little wonder why London is one of the world's top tourist destinations.

3. Machu Picchu, Peru

One of the New Seven Wonders of the World, this is definitely one spot that you want to visit in your 20s while you have the energy to scale up the Andes Mountain. The site takes you back to the 15th century where there is much to explore. Walk through the temples while keeping your eyes peeled for rare animals  like the spectacled bear, Pampas cat, and Peruvian dwarf brocket.

4. Paris, France

Paris is undoubtedly the city of love, history, art and fashion. The historic landmarks, rich French culture and the cosmopolitan nature of this city make it one of the most visited cities in the world. Known throughout the world as ‘The City of Light’ Paris is celebrated for its architecture, luxurious boulevards and numerous monuments and sidewalk cafes.

5. Greek Islands, Greece

From the azure coloured waters, golden sand, pink sunsets and ancient ruins, island hopping in Greece make for a perfect tourist destination. The ancient ruins are reflective of the country's history and mythology while the cobbled streets and winding alleys are the ultimate 'Fomo' inducing venture.

6. New York, USA

The Big Apple as we all know it, is the ultimate metropolis stateside. There is no other city that presents a more diverse mixture of cultures than NYC. Food stalls line the streets, there are unparalleled shopping districts, a variety of cuisines as well as museums and theatres. What's not to love about this city?

7. Istanbul, Turkey

There is no question at all about Istanbul being one of the greatest cities in the world. This boisterous city is one with a fascinating history, rich in culture and home to some of the friendliest people. Mosques, minarets, markets, food, whirling dervishes, hammams and Turkish delight can be found in abundance.

8. Tokyo, Japan

There is no city quite like Japan's capital. Although the skyscrapers and bright lights may remind you of New York City, the orderliness and respectful culture couldn't be further away from its US counterpart. Early morning fish markets, the unique street style and the beautiful gardens and shrines will soon make this city your number one destination.

9. Marrakech, Morocco

Distinguished by its Arabian, European and Berber cultural influences, Morocco has rightly earned the title of the ‘jewel of Africa’. Marrakech — one of its most ancient cities — is welcoming, friendly and astoundingly beautiful. Often referred to as the ‘Red City’, Marrakech has increasingly become the epicentre of trade and culture. The magical city is energetic, lively and colourful and inviting for any travel fiend. Brimming with markets, gardens, palaces and mosques, the city is full of ancient history and culture.
