American actor, writer and comedian Tina Fey plays a reporter on assignment in Afghanistan in her latest movie titled Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, which is based on newspaper journalist Kim Barker’s book The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The movie also stars Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Alfred Molina and Billy Bob Thornton, reported Reuters.

Directed by Glen Ficarra and John Requa, the duo known for popular comedy flicks like Crazy, Stupid, Love and I Love You Phillip Morris, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot revolves around the story of Kim Baker (Fey), a TV news copywriter who is dispatched to Afghanistan in 2003 because all the top war correspondents have moved on to the new war zone in Iraq.

The screenplay has been written by Robert Carlock, and is therefore predictably profane. However, the audience will also witness romance and zany antics throughout the movie, promising good entertainment. Martin Freeman plays a photographer, Alfred Molina a local politician and finally, Christopher Abbott an Afghan fixer by the name of Fahim Ahmadzai.

“My character in the movie makes a choice to kind of blow up her life, she’s stuck in her life and she makes the choice to jump and try something new,” said Fey at the film’s premiere in New York earlier this week. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot will hit the US cinemas on March 4.

Tina Fey, best known for her performances on Saturday Night Live and has received eight Emmy Awards, five Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Golden Globes and four Writers Guild of America Awards. She was also nominated for a Grammy Award for her autobiographical book, Bossypants.
