KARACHI:

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested on Tuesday two senior officials of the Sindh Wildlife Department and the Sindh Forest Department for their involvement in corruption, NAB officials confirmed on Wednesday.

Wildlife department’s provincial conservator Saeed Akhtar Baloch and former forest department’s chief conservator Riaz Ahmed Wagan have been arrested after being accused for embezzling funds worth Rs160 million. NAB has also taken into custody the departments’ records of contracts awarded to different companies between 2012 and 2016. These contracts were given for the purchase and repairs of offices.

“The situation isn’t clear yet why our boss has been detained,” said a senior wildlife official. He said that Baloch was called by the NAB officials on Tuesday and was taken into custody during the interrogation. Wagan was also detained by the anti-corruption department in January last year, after he was accused of misappropriating forest land but he was released later.
