CBS is bringing everyone's favourite female detective back onscreen with their upcoming series Drew, and this time Nancy Drew's character will be portrayed by Iranian actor Sarah Shahi, Vulture reported.
Sarah, who has previously appeared in Person of Interest and The L Word, is the first person of colour to essay this role. Previously, Emma Roberts played Nancy Drew in the 2007 movie and Bonita Granville starred in a series of films during 1938-1939.
Priyanka Chopra to play villain in 'Baywatch' movie
This time, however, CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller was "open to any ethnicity" to portray the "diverse" character in the show and so Sarah was casted, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
The new show will use the book series only as a starting point, and will build from there -- showing Nancy Drew working as a police officer in New York City in her 30s. It will also show a vulnerable side to the detective.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nancy "arrested the wrong guy, was publicly called on it and quit the force. Drew will find her struggling to find a way back to the confident character she's best known as to audiences worldwide."
Love it already? Wait till you read this: the show will be written and executive produced by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan of Grey's Anatomy fame. Looks like this one is set to be a big hit!
