Chenab Pollution: Environment secy’s reply sought

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought reply from the environment secretary on a petition seeking action against factories that were allegedly dumping their waste water in the River Chenab. The court gave the secretary till March 25 to submit a reply. Petitioner Haroon Malik submitted that these factories were discharging contaminated water into the river with impunity. He said the contaminated water was ending up being used to irrigate vegetable farms in the region.
