Clarification
ISLAMABAD:
This is with reference to a report in your newspaper of May 3 titled “Govt to oppose N-League bill in NA”. I have submitted the bill in the National Assembly and your report missed the following: First, Article 6 of the Constitution is silent about who may file a case for high treason. This issue is dealt with in the “The High Treason (Punishment) Act, 1973” and it is this act’s clause 3 that the PML-N is seeking to amend.
Second, under the current, original version of the said act, the government does not need to claim since it already possesses the sole right to lodge complaints of high treason. The PML-N is proposing to give this right to all Pakistanis. Third, my name was incomplete and mis-spelt. Engr.
