Speaking to journalists, JI chief Sirajul Haq said Pakistan will soon become “a corruption-free and peaceful country”.
“The country is facing several problems such as terrorism, poverty and unemployment,” he said. “However, corruption is also a core issue. It has destroyed the country and must be eliminated through a massive campaign.”
He added the National Accountability Bureau should reveal the names of senior politicians who were involved in corruption. On Friday, the federal government said NAB’s regional offices were looking into several parliamentarians and officials. However, names were not revealed so as to not interfere with the investigation.
According to Siraj, it is the duty of the government to provide health and education services to the citizens. He said leaders remained unaware of the problems faced by the public.
“People thought Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will be able to perform better after coming into power for the third time,” he said. “But they were wrong.”
Siraj said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif vowed to end the culture of bribery and bring about change but he failed to do so. He also criticised the Punjab government for approving a law to protect women against violence.
