Targeted: Pro-govt tribal elder gunned down in Bajaur

SHABQADAR: A tribal elder was gunned down while another was critically injured in an improvised explosive device blast, in Bajaur Agency.

The elder from Mullah Said Banda in Salarzai tehsil, identified as Fazal, was known for supporting the government. He was on his way for morning prayers on Saturday when he was attacked and killed. The political administration confirmed his murder and was considering it an act of target killing.

A tribal elder identified as Malik Noor Zada was injured in a blast in Kamangara, Nawagai subdivision. Noor Zada was wounded when an IED, which was planted along his route, exploded in Kacha Road area Saturday afternoon. He was rushed to Peshawar in critical condition.

The Bajaur Agency administration official told The Express Tribune a search operation was carried out in both areas against suspect militants.

Gas explosion

In Aman Kot village, Barang tehsil, two children of a family died while two others were injured when gasses in a water tank exploded, local sources and a political administration official told The Express Tribune.

They said Nooristan’s two children, five-year-old Sadam and 10-year-old Raina, were killed when the blast occurred, while three other children were injured. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital where their condition was stated to be out of danger.
