Furniture designer Melanie Saigol gives us a lesson about creating harmony in her interiors and shows us the art collection and tapestries in her favourite space

Melanie Saigol’s residence in Lahore is not only expansive, but also gorgeous. With lush gardens surrounding the property, the house is designed in a way to enjoy the views of greenery and foliage. Melanie escorts us directly into her parlour; this airy well-lit room is a treasure trove for an interiors junkie.

With tall windows, the room has a handsome view of the garden and the patio, which adds depth to the room. Paintings by Unver Shafi and Ahmed Zoay hang proudly on the walls while eclectic tapestries and a rug bought in Kashgar add a pop of colour and brightness to the room.

“I love the light in this room, you feel like you are in the garden,” says Saigol, “I don’t feel cut off from nature and get to enjoy the patio even during the hot summer months.”

While the Gandhara sculptures and the Tajik embroidered tapestry give the room character, Saigol hangs crystal balls on all the windows so tiny rainbows penetrate the room whenever the sun shines on them.

Being a furniture designer, Saigol has created most of the furniture pieces in her space herself, and the most eye-catching was the patchwork cushion covers created from vintage saris.

“I love mixing things up, you should have something old and something new at the same time to create harmony.”

From the room one can see the garden boasting a beautiful shamiana or garden gazebo that Melanie takes pride in creating. “This is why I love this particular room: because you can enjoy so many different landscapes at the same time.”
