KARACHI:
A court bailiff recovered 19 family members detained by their relatives in a marriage dispute near the sea off Korangi Creek in a raid on Tuesday.
The raid was conducted on the orders of Malir district and sessions judge after a woman, identified as Baby, moved a habeas corpus application for her family's recovery.
The family, belonging to Kutchi Kohli tribe and comprising 19 people, including seven children, was allegedly detained by their relatives for the past eight days.
Transgender Woes: Roznamcha filed against cop for attempt to kidnap
An official in the raiding team said a girl from the family was married off into a relative's family some time ago but the marriage did not go well and the woman demanded a divorce after leaving for Hyderabad.
The husband's family, however, demanded her back and insisted the matter will be solved by their panchayat. The girl's family refused and started packing up to migrate to Badin.
Then, a week ago, the husband's family attacked the woman's family, forcing them to live inside a guarded hut near the sea till the woman's return, said the official.
After the family's recovery, the bailiff ordered the police to provide security to the family and ensure their safety while leaving the city for their destination. Meanwhile, the family was also asked to appear before the judge in person on Wednesday (today).
