LAHORE: As many as 63 model pushcarts were distributed among vendors in the city on Monday under a pilot project.

Chief Minister’s Adviser Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan and Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal distributed 17 push carts among vendors in Laal Pul area, 27 in Karim Block Market and 10 in Allama Iqbal Town’s Moon Market.

Hassaan said the project was a step towards beautifying Lahore. He said the pushcarts would help keep the food items clean.

Sumbal said, “The pushcarts will improve the cart culture in the city.” He said the vendors who had been allotted the pushcarts would do the business only at places designated by the city government. A steering committee would monitor their performance and the project’s outcome, the commissioner said.

The pushcarts are being provided by Akhuwwat on interest-free loans.

Earlier, the commissioner’s office had arranged a competition to select pushcart designs keeping in view the price, durability and hygiene parameters.

The University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, the Punjab University, the National College of Arts and the Punjab Small Industries Corporation had taken part in the competition.

Sceptic | 8 years ago | Reply @Malik Saab: Your theory is wrong. Punjab's senior ministers include Rajputs like Rana Mashud and Rana Sanaullah. Another Rana is the speaker of the Punjab Assembly. Punjab is leaping foward miles ahead of other provinces under Shahbaz Sharif. Let the province progress.
Malik Saab | 8 years ago | Reply @Faisal: He is the worst thing happened to Punjab. He is ruling Punjab for many many years. He is a Complete One Man Show. All institutes are crippled as the whole power revolves around one personality. The Mayor System is also destroyed. Police is a front man of all corrupt. On all inaugurations he reach alone and take the credit of every project. He is the acting Lahore Mayor as well. It is not a democracy. It a pure Kingdom of one person and a family. Also people with Certain last names are always appointed on Priority. Punjab is now ruled by those who hate local population. Have you ever wondered why every Adviser's name end up in Khawaja, Butt or a Khan.?. Why no Advisor name end up in a Jatt or a Jatt?. Just check out the list of PMLN ministers. 90 percent have same origins and peculiar last names.!!. Nepotism at its best!!! He is a Known hater of those families who have local roots. Mughals used this trick where local groups were never appointed so that power groups from other regions will rule locals. Shahbaz Sharif is following those footsteps as well. Shahbaz Sharif will always go for the Strong hierarchy and only friends and family members will come forward with this system.
