DHA Golf Open: Amin hits seven birdies to fly highest

Youngster leads field after carding six-under-par 66

KARACHI: Young Pakistani golfer Hamza Amin took the lead with an impressive six-under-par 66 in the opening round of the professionals event of the 7th All Pakistan DHA Golf Open Championship at the DHA Golf and Country Club in Karachi on Friday.

After a bogey on the first hole, Amin fired birdies on the second, fourth, sixth, seventh, 14th, 15th and 16th holes to finish the day as the leader.

Behind him was Pakistan’s former number one Shabbir Iqbal with a five-under-par 67 laced with two bogeys and seven birdies.

Defending champion Muhammad Munir had a day to forget, hitting two bogeys and three birdies on his way to a one-under-par 71 and 18th place.

He later blamed his bad performance on strong wind but stayed hopeful of a better showing, “I had a really bad round, but still I am not that far will put my best in the next two days,” Munir said.
