NADRA’s assistance sought for verification purposes

The provincial government has sought the assistance of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to verify bona fide owners of properties being acquired in connection with the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) project.
The NADRA has established a special desk at Zarar Shaheed Road for quick verification of cases in this regard. To avoid disturbing routine work and inconveniencing citizens, the authority has decided to open these desks over the afternoon.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Khwaja Ahmad Hassaan said the government had already acquired half the required land along the route of the project. The government has decided to set up the desk to facilitate people and ensure quick completion of the land acquisition process, he said. Hassaan said the desk had been issuing Family Registration Certificates (FRC) to those claiming to have been affected by the project.
Responding to a question, Hassaan said there were some hurdles in the land acquisition process in Kotli Ghasi and its adjoining areas as ownership of most properties there was contested. Earlier, the government shifted facilitation camps from the University of Engineering and Technology to Kotli Ghasi area.
Hassan said that the government wanted to quickly complete the land acquisition process by disbursing relocation compensation to all bona fide claimants. He said ownership of various properties was contested while the status of others was sub judice. Hassaan said the government could not interfere in the process but could facilitate people if they withdrew cases and filed relocation compensation claims at pertinent departments.
He said so far the government had doled out a sum to the tune of nearly Rs7 billion in relocation compensation. The PML-N leader said a total sum of Rs15 billion had been earmarked by the government on this account. Hassaan said the government was acquiring nearly 1,150 kanals of land lying along the project’s route from around 2,400 families.
