How and when did you get interested in jewellery?
As a child, I admired the beautiful and intricate vintage jewellery worn by my mother and aunts. By the time I was in college, I had started borrowing my mother’s pieces and cherished wearing them. I have been an avid collector of statement costume jewellery ever since, which is how I discovered Outhouse. I fell in love with the brand and acquired multiple pieces from their collections. That’s when I knew I wanted to be involved in bringing the Outhouse Jewellery brand to the Pakistani market.
What are your favourite pieces of jewellery and where did you get them?
I inherited an heirloom from my grandmother. It is a flawless emerald and diamond handcuff, set in 24 karat gold. Her jeweller made the piece during the post-partition period, using special tools and craftsmanship to create the intricate design. It truly is a showstopper, as you don’t see workmanship like that anymore. Whenever I wear it, people notice it immediately. It’s absolutely gorgeous!
Is there a piece you are emotionally attached to? Tell us how you acquired it?
My beloved little sister Rooha had a silver ring with her name carved into it in Arabic script. When she passed away it was sent to us along with her other belongings in a bag. I just knew I had to keep it. I hold the ring and her precious memory close to my heart forever.
Is there anything on your radar that you want to get in the future?
I have my eye on my mother’s diamond string, I can’t wait to inherit it.
