To The Slammer: Former PESCO head jailed for six months
A case against him of accumulating illegal assets worth Rs35 million is under way
PESHAWAR:
An accountability court imprisoned the former chief executive of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) for six months on Saturday for failing to reply to a court notice. He was also fined Rs1 million. On January 20, former CEO of Pesco Akhtar Shah was presented before the court of judge Muhammad Asim Imam. During the proceeding, he had a heated exchange with the judge after which he was issued a contempt notice. He had failed to file a reply and was subsequently awarded a prison sentence. In addition, a case against him of accumulating illegal assets worth Rs35 million is under way. Separately, another accountability court issued an arrest warrant for two witnesses who failed to comply with court orders. The police were directed to produce both men on February 17. The court was informed that Khaliq Yar and Humayun Khan had failed to appear before the court to record their statements in a corruption case registered against Peshawar Development Authority former director general Qazi Laiq. The court issued warrants against them for failing to comply with court orders even though several notices had been issued.
