SHC order: Deadline set for removal of encroachments

KARACHI: Shah Faisal Town nazim was ordered by the Sindh High Court to remove all encroachments from public thoroughfares within four weeks and to file a compliance report before the court.

The bench, comprising justices Mushir Alam and Syed Zakir Hussain, passed the order in a petition filed by Ashraf Khan Niazi, a resident of Punjab Town, Malir.

The petitioner maintained that a former councillor, Nargis Khursheed, and her husband have encroached six out of the 14 feet of public thoroughfare obstructing the passage of emergency vehicles, such as fire tenders. On Friday, Karachi EDO Law submitted that the city government has already asked the town nazim to remove such encroachments.

The bench also noticed that none of the other respondents were in attendance when called. The petition was disposed of with an order that encroachments cannot be allowed on public streets.
