Suspect blows himself up as bomb plot foiled in Jhelum

According to reports, the suspect attempted to plant explosives near Grand Trunk Road

JHELUM: A terror bid was foiled by police on Thursday morning near the outskirts of Jhelum as a terrorist blew himself up during an encounter with police, Express News reported.

"The suspect blew himself up with a hand grenade as the police approached him, after an exchange of fire between the motorway police and the suspected terrorist," District Police Officer Jhelum Mujahid Akbar said.

The suspect had tried to plant explosives on railway tracks near Grand Trunk Road when a citizen reported the 'suspicious individual' to motorway police.

A search operation is underway and security officials have cordoned off the area.

Earlier this month, police in Dera Ismail Khan foiled a terror bid and arrested three alleged terrorists having ties with a banned outfit.

A special police unit raided a hideout [of terrorists] on Muddi Road near Shaheedabad area of Dera Ismail Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and apprehended three terrorists belonging to a banned outfit, read a statement issued by the Special Police Unit Dera Ismail Khan Region.
