Instructions have been issued to district administrations throughout the province to identify state land where wildlife parks could be established. The administrations have a deadline of February 1 to submit reports in this regard, Wildlife and Parks Director General Khalid Ayaz Khan said at a meeting held at the Forest Complex on Tuesday.

He said 222 acres of land in Sahiwal Yousafwala had already been identified for a wildlife park.

The land has been transferred to the Wildlife Department, he said.

Work on the master plan for the park will begin after approval from the chief minister.

Minister for Forests and Wildlife Malik Muhammad Asif Bha Awan, MNA Muhammad Afzal Khokhar, MPA Saira Iftikhar, University of Animal Sciences Vice Chancellor Talat Naseer Pasha, Wildlife and Parks Director General Khalid Ayaz Khan, Tourism Development Corporation Punjab Managing Director Ahmer Malik, Punjab Chief Game Warden Shahrukh Butt, Lahore Zoo Director Shafqat Ali, Lahore Safari Zoo Park Deputy Director Syed Zafarul Hassan and the Jallo Park Wildlife Deputy Director were present at the meeting.

Spring festival in Lahore

Minister Asif Bha Awan said that the Jashan-i-Baharan (Spring Festival) will be held at the Lahore Safari Park Zoo in the first week of March.


The festival will go on for a week and will include an array of attractions including folk music performances, a shaam-i-ghazal, luddi dance performances, as well as photography, painting, essay writing and speech competitions.

He said that a pet show had also been planned.

The wildlife and parks director general said that the estimated cost for purchase of new animals for the Safari Zoo had been sent to Planning and Development Department and the Finance Department.

He said that work on the construction of a play land, cafeteria and food court was underway at the Safari Park Zoo.

He said they were also overseeing preparation of cages for animals at the Safari Park.

The minister said that there would be 50 kinds of joyrides for children at the play land including a monorail, a bullet train, a jet ride and a driving school for kids.

The participants of the meeting also reviewed the affairs of the Lahore Zoo, the Safari Park Zoo and the Jallo Park Drive-in Zoo.
