The first ever PSL will overlap with the Masters Cricket League (MCL), which has raised doubts whether the event will be able to create the expected impact. And with major tournaments like Asia Cup and World T20 to follow, it is no secret that PSL’s backers have struggled to attract sponsors.
But despite all the teething troubles, Sethi is confident that the PSL would be a big hit and emerge as a unique brand among rival leagues of the world in its first year.

“I am very much sure that the PSL would stand out as an event despite being surrounded by MCL, Asia Cup and World T20 because it’s the beginning of a historic phase in Pakistan cricket,” Sethi told The Express Tribune.
“The fanfare and excitement will be at a whole new level for fans living in Pakistan and abroad. We need to change our brand of cricket and I’m sure the PSL would help in that as our players would be groomed in a competitive environment against and with world-class players. PSL would certainly be a breakthrough in helping Pakistan emerge as a different unit in ODI and T20I formats especially.”

Even though Sethi admitted that the inaugural league’s launch and development has been far from ideal, he assured that the end product would justify the minor road bumps.
“I would urge the fans and critics to overlook small mistakes which we have already committed and might commit in the future as well. We all will learn together from the first edition, so all we can ask is time and space to learn from our mistakes,” he added.
