Public health: PFA cracks down on hospital canteens

 The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has launched a drive gainst sale of adulterated and substandard food items at hospital canteen in the city. PFA Operations Director Ayesha Mumtaz inspected six canteens in public hospitals on Wednesday.


PFA Nishtar Town’s food safety inspector fined the management of a canteen in Lahore General Hospital for selling expired beverages. The canteen was also found to have poor cleanliness arrangements. The authority’s Wagha Town team fined the Ghurki Hospital canteen on similar charges.

Food safety officials in Data Gunj Buksh Town seized substandard milk and juices from the canteen in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and fined the contractor.

A PFA team in Samanabad checked the canteen at Shaikh Zayed Hospital and found animals in the canteen area. The authority fined the canteen management for allowing workers to work without medical certificates.

The authority’s Shalimar Town team fined Shalimar Hospital and Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital canteens over poor hygiene and cleanliness. PFA’s Gulberg Town team fined Childrens Hospital and Gulab Devi Hospitals on similar charges. The authority had earlier directed hospitals to improve their cleanliness standards.
