KARACHI: The huge pothole that developed on Shaheed-e-Millat Road on Friday is under the process of repair, with more than 50 per cent of the work having been completed.

A tale of Karachi’s sewerage system: Garbage heaps and clogged drains

According to the spokesperson of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), Nazir Mateen, half of the work has been completed, the new pipeline has replaced the broken line and the only work left is the construction of a manhole, which will be completed by Monday.

“We have changed the 40-year-old pipelines with the newer one,” said Mateen. “A total of six pipelines replaced the damaged lines. We are also checking if a similar problem persists in the sewerage lines in the other track of the road. Otherwise it will only take 24 hours for the construction of the manhole.”The traffic situation also seemed normal, said East traffic SP Qamar Rizvi while talking to The Express Tribune. “We have maintained the flow of traffic and there is no such problem for us,” he said. He added that the traffic police are working in coordination with the officials of the water board as the repair work is also going on at the spot.
