The Sindh Police's anti-corruption department (ACD) claims to have apprehended two 'beaters' of a counter-terrorism department (CTD) official for taking bribes.
ACD director Nazar Muhammad Bozdar said that this was the first such action taken by the ACD against a law enforcement agency, adding the accused, Asif and his companion, had picked up a citizen and shifted him to the CTD office. They then released him in the Eidgah area late on Sunday night after getting a bribe of Rs120,000.
"The family of the person picked up by the CTD had already approached us," explained the director. "We arrested the beaters of CTD's sub-inspector Zakir red-handed when they took the money from the victim's family." The officer said that initially, they identified themselves as CTD personnel but later revealed that they worked privately for sub-inspector Zakir and used to collect money from citizens after threatening to book them in fake cases.
