Army chief approves death sentence for nine terrorists

ISPR says terrorists were involved in committing heinous offences relating to terrorism

Army chief General Raheel Sharif confirmed on Friday the death sentences for nine terrorists convicted by military courts, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

"The hardcore terrorists were involved in committing heinous offences relating to terrorism, including attack on Parade Lane Mosque, Inter Services Intelligence Headquarters, Multan, attacks on Law Enforcement Agencies, kidnapping and killing civilians in Lahore. These convicts were tried by military courts," the statement said.

ISPR shared the following details of the convicts:

Muhammad Ghauri S/O Javed Iqbal

The convict was an active member of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and and TTP media cell in-charge. Ghauri was allegedly involved in an attack on Parade Lane Mosque, Rawalpindi, which resulted in the death of 38 people, causing injuries to 57 others.

Ghauri was tried on four charges and awarded death sentence as he admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court.

Abdul Qayyum S/O Ameer Muhammad


The convict was an active member of Harkat ul Jihad-e-Islam, Punjab. He was involved in an attack on Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Headquarters, Multan, killing seven and injuring 72 others. He admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was tried on seven charges and awarded death sentence.

Muhammad Imran S/O Abdul Manan

The convict was an active member of TTP. He was involved in terrorists acts and attacks on LEAs, killing and injuring soldiers. He admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was tried on four charges and awarded death sentence.

Aksan Mehboob S/O Asghar Ali 

The convict was an active member of al Qaeda. He was involved in an attack on LEAs by using fire-arms which resulted in death / injuries to soldiers. He admitted his offences before the Magistrate and the trial court. He was tried on 4 charges and awarded death sentence.

Adbul Rauf Gujjar S/O Rehmat Ali (accused no 1), Muhammad Hashim S/O Muhammad Abdullah (accused no 2) ,Sulaman S/O Boneer ( accused no 3), Shafqat Farooqi S/O Malik Liaqat Ali (accused no 4) and Muhammad Farhan S/O Muhammad Rafique (accused no 5)

The five convicts were active members of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP). They were involved in killing civilians in Lahore.

Gujjar was punished for target killing of four civilians, namely Syed Shakir Ali Rizvi, Syed Waqar Haider, Syed Arshad Ali and Ghulam Mustafa.

Meanwhile, accused nos. 2 to 5 were involved in the murder of Ghulam Mustafa and Anwar Hussain's injury. The accused admitted their offences before the magistrate.

Army chief confirms death penalty of nine terrorists

Accused no 1, Gujjar, was tried on eight charges whereas accused nos 2 to 5 were tried on four charges. All of them have been awarded death sentence.
