Maintaining standards: Open inquiry starts against health officials

The anti-corruption committee has decided to conduct an open inquiry against officials of the health departments to maintain the standards of healthcare.
A meeting of the anti-corruption committee - I was held on Tuesday and chaired by the Sindh chief secretary Muhammad Siddique Memon. It was decided to hold the officers accountable for violation of the Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SPPRA) rules.

According to anti-corruption director Nazar Muhammad Bozdar, who was also present in the meeting, there are a total of 14 cases which were presented in the meeting for consideration. "The chief secretary has asked to initiate a fair inquiry without any discrimination against the involved officers," he said. "The major cases of corruption are in violation of SPPRA rules, where the hospitals did not follow the procurement rules while purchasing equipment and medicines without tender."
Public health: Poor performing districts warned to improve indictors
"The violation was done by the officers of various hospitals," Bozdar told The Express Tribune. These officsers, according to him, include Dr Khalid Bukhari and Dr Syed Hussain Ahmed of Sindh Government Hospital, Korangi, Dr Abdul Shakoor Abbasi, medical superintendent of Sindh Government Hospital, Saudabad, Dr Zakir Hussain of Rural Health Centre, Tando Bago, Dr Abdur Rehman Sammo and Dr Sher Muhammad Soomro.
He added that storekeeper Fazal Karim of the Rural Health Centre, Bulri Shah Kareem, was also found involved in violation of the laid-down rules."On the earlier stage, an open inquiry will be conducted against the involved officers," said Bozdar. "No arrest will be made unless inquiry is completed."
