Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan refused to accept Azhar Ali’s resignation as the ODI captain of the Pakistan cricket team.

Azhar, who became the captain of the Pakistan ODI team after the World cup 2015, refused to join the camp along with veteran Mohammad Hafeez due to the presence of Muhammad Amir.

Amir breaks down after meeting Hafeez in camp

The issue was later resolved after the intervention of the PCB chairman, with both players joining the training camp for the New Zealand tour on Saturday.

However, there were reports that Azhar Ali is not entirely please with the situation and is thinking about resigning from captaincy of the One-Day format, which eventually confirmed by a PCB statement on Tuesday.

Players asked to state in writing they have no problem with Amir

"Azhar Ali met the chairman PCB [Shaharyar Khan]. He tendered his resignation. The chairman didn't accept his resignation, Azhar Ali agreed and he will continue as captain," the PCB said in a statement.

Pakistan will face New Zealand in a three One-Day and three T20 series in January, for which the team is to be announced very soon.

Saf Rana | 8 years ago | Reply what a farce, resigning, Azar?Hafeez not wanting to be part of the team if Amir is picked?grow up chaps!maybe your worried about AMIR'S genuine talent?and the fact that he would be picked ahead of Azar & Hafeez everytime, not to mention he has more talent then the two individuals who are refusing to play in the same team put together,,Azar&Hafeez could do us a real favour by refusing to play for Pakistan, now that would be great!
TooTrue | 8 years ago | Reply Pakistan is the only place on earth where resignations are rejected. If someone resigns that decision should be respected. If Azhar thought that his resignation would be accepted and final he wouldn't have submitted it. Get rid of this silly culture.
