BATTAGRAM:

Residents of Battagram protested against power outages, and suspended the flow of traffic on Karakoram Highway for over three hours on Monday.

The demonstrators were protesting against Pesco for the frequent outages in the district. They held a sit-in near the district courts.

Speakers condemned load-shedding, saying Pesco was treating the people of Battagram like “second-class citizens”.

A protester said the outages persisted despite the fact that winter had set in. He added the power failure also affected commercial activities a great deal. Domestic consumers, especially students, faced tremendous hardships.

They warned of taking to the streets again if Pesco did not stop scheduled and unscheduled outages.

The crowd ultimately dispersed when the local administration assured them of taking up the matter with higher authorities.
