LAHORE:

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has set the Punjab government a week’s time to apprehend those responsible for the murder of two party workers. The PTI leaders say if the government failed to do so, party workers would protest on the streets.

Two PTI workers, Malik Arif and Malik Khurram Shahzad, were allegedly killed by some workers of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz during the local government elections in Lahore.

Police had arrested five people in connection with the incident PTI leaders say the main accused are still at large.

A protest in this regard was held at Ek Moriya Pul. Scores of PTI workers led by Muhammad Madni participated in the protest. They were holding placards bearing messages against the government. They also demanded justice for the deceased.

Later, a police team headed by SSP Haroon Joya met the protesters. He assured them that the main suspect would be arrested soon.

The protestors also held a meeting with DIG Operations Haider Ashraf.

Later, talking to newsmen, Madni said the party had given a week’s time to the government to apprehend the suspect.

He said it was shameful that police had been unable to find the killers even though two months had passed since the murder.

Madni said the government was protecting the main suspect. “Families of our workers are still waiting for justice. No one in the government is willing to hear them,” he said.
