KARACHI:

Scores of employees of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) have been suspended after the Sindh government’s decision to transfer more functions from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

The provincial government recently decided to transfer the functions of basic health, education and local taxes from the KMC to the six district municipal corporations in the city. As many as 17 contract-based employees of the KMC, who were appointed after August 28 this year, have been suspended as a result, said a senior human resource director at KMC, Mukhtar Hussain.

Similarly, around 900 ad-hoc KWSB employees have also been suspended as legal procedures were violated in their appointments, according to KWSB managing director Misbahuddin Farid, adding that there were serious audit objections as well.
