Perilous sale: Federal government given last chance
The court will resume hearing the petition on January 12
LAHORE:
Lahore High Court on Tuesday gave the federal government a last chance to file a reply on a petition challenging the sale of used uniforms of law enforcement agency personnel.
Justice Sajid Mahmood Bhatti observed that the matter needed to be dealt with diligence by the government after a law official requested more time to file a reply. Justice Bhatti directed the official to ensure that the reply was submitted by the next hearing.
The government’s counsel told the court that the sale had been proscribed and strict action was being taken against those found to be flouting the ban. Advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhry, the petitioner, said incidence of terrorism had peaked due to the uninhibited sale of the uniforms.
He cited several incidents of terrorism carried out by miscreants attired in uniforms of law enforcement agency personnel. Chaudhry asked the court to question the government on under what law was the sale of used uniforms allowed. The court will resume hearing the petition on January 12.
