Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Win almost in the bag for Lahore Blues

Restrict KRL on paltry total, require 30 runs to win with two days remaining

KARACHI: Aizaz Cheema and Bilawal Iqbal took five wickets each to help Lahore Blues restrict KRL to a second-innings total of 80 runs in the second-round fixture of the Super Eight stage of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday.

Lahore Blues had resumed their first innings on 23-3 but only managed to make 122 and trailed KRL by 36 runs as Muhammad Abbas and Sadaf Hussain claimed five wickets each.

Cheema and Iqbal then combined to restrict KRL to 80. At the end of play Lahore Blues were 14-1 and required another 30 runs to win.

In the match at the NBP Stadium, UBL skipper Younus Khan made 197 in the first innings before deciding to declare on 585-7 against Karachi Whites, who were 106-3 with Jaahid Ali (39) and Faisal Iqbal (27) on the crease at stumps.

At the National Stadium of Karachi, NBP’s Akbarur Rehman scored an unbeaten century (142) to take his team’s first innings total to 332-5 and was on the crease at the end of play. Earlier SSGC had resumed their innings on 272-9 and were able to add 76 runs on the second day to make 348.

In the match between Wapda and SNGPL, Wapda resumed their innings on 274-6 and made only 23 runs before losing their four wickets on 297. Azizullah took four wickets giving away 39 runs, while Yasir Shah registered figures of 3-101.

At the end of play, SNGPL who were in their first innings, were 235-4 with Misbahul Haq (42) on the crease.  Muhammad Hafeez scored 57 with Azhar Ali made 44 in SNGPL’s cause.
