FAISALABAD:

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah has said that there is  no room for corrupt judges in the judiciary and strict action would be taken against corrupt judicial officers.

He was addressing a meeting of Jhang Bar Association on Friday. Shah said steps were being taken to improve performance of judiciary so that public issues and complaints could be resolved without unnecessary delays.

He said there were more than 30,000 pending cases in Jhang due to a shortage of judges. “Addressing this shortage must be made a priority,” he said. Justice Shah said 500 kanals had been arranged for construction of a judicial complex at Jhang. He said work on the project would start soon.

He said there was a shortage of 640 courtrooms across the province for want of funds. “Lack of space is not only creating problems for judges but it is also causing unnecessary delays in dispensation of justice,” he said.

He said the government should enhance budgets to overcome these problems.

Justice Shah also said all courts in the Punjab were being connected though a computerised network.

He said Rs250 million was being spent in this regard.

He said files of 750,000 cases had been computerised.
