Jahangir meets Zardari: Bar members divided over meeting

KARACHI: Five members of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) including Abbas Ali, Khan Afzal Khan, Mian Muhammad Javed, Choudhry Aslam Ghumman and another member, opposed the meeting of their president Asma Jahangir and other office bearers with President Zardari during a press conference at the SCBAP office at Karachi registry.

The President never supported the lawyers’ movement for the independence of the judiciary and hence [Jahangir] should not have met him, said the lawyers. Meanwhile Asma Jahangir also addressed the press at SCBAP office later and said the meeting was purely in the interest of the bar to make it free from financial hitches.
