Muslim judge in NYC criticised for taking oath on Holy Quran
Several Americans took to social media to criticise Carolyn Walker's decision to take oath on the Quran over the Bible
In a first in the United States, a black Muslim woman took oath as a civil court judge in New York City while swearing to abide by the US Constitution placing her hand on the Holy Quran.
While it is a norm in the United States and most western countries for oaths to be administered with the individual swearing on the Holy Bible, Judge Carolyn Walker took her oath on the Holy Quran.
We must support Muslims in US, says Google CEO
"I, Carolyn Walker-Diallo, do solemnly affirm that I will support the constitution of the United States and the constitution of the State of New York and I will faithfully discharge my duties as judge of the civil court of the city of NY, so help me God," Diallo said as took oath on the Holy Quran.
The video of her swearing in ceremony as a civil court judge of the 7th Municipal District at the Brooklyn Burough Hall was posted on Facebook leading to widespread criticism.
While a few posted in favor of Carolyn’s induction, many Americans objected to the judge’s decision to swear on the Hole Quran rather than the Bible. Some went as far as calling it "a slap in the face of all Americans."
One social media user went as far as saying, "Hope she gets hit by a train or something.”
Meanwhile some took what seemed to be a sensible approach, by quoting the US constitution.
He had something decent to say about the Holy Quran and Islam:
Food for thought?
