Protest: Farmers threaten to surround mill

FAISALABAD: Sugarcane producers have threatened to surround Safina Sugar Mill on December 15 and hold a demonstration against an “arbitrary and illogical reduction” in the amount to be paid for sugarcane. Kissan Board Lalian president Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah said on Thursday that mill owners were exploiting sugarcane growers on one pretext or another. He said this year, sugar-mills began the cane crushing season late. “Now, they have decided to reduce the amount to be paid for sugarcane.” The Kissan Board has decided to surround Safina Sugar Mill on December 15 (Tuesday) and hold a demonstration. He said they would work on a strategy for future protests on December 15.
