The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government will hold a one-day conference on re-construction of Malakand Division, including Chitral, in Islamabad on Thursday. Insiders told The Express Tribune the aim of the conference is to bring together development partners, heads of UN Agencies, charitable organisations and representatives of friendly countries to address development challenges in the region. Chitral, Shangla, Swat and Dir districts in Malakand Division were all hit by the October 26 earthquake; Shangla in particular experienced a fair amount of infrastructural damage. Chitral was hit by floods earlier this year and locals are still struggling with the aftermath.
