ISLAMABAD: Custom authorities have sought the Islamabad High Court’s intervention to get back the passport of model Ayyan Ali.

While challenging a decision of a court directing customs officials to return Ayyan’s passport to her, the officials have challenged the decision before the IHC. They have contended that the order was not issued under due process.

Ayyan indicted in money laundering case

In addition, the officials maintained that the passport was a valid piece of evidence, as it had entry and exit stamps of several of the model’s visits. In addition, they contended that the passport’s possession was required because the money laundry case against the model was still pending before the court.

The registrar office has yet to fix the case before a bench of the IHC.

On November 25, a court in Rawalpindi directed customs officials to return Ayyan’s passport. In her application for the document’s return, Ayyan had assured the court that she would make regular appearances in court during the trial.

Ayyan’s acquittal plea: Court to announce verdict on Friday

Earlier, the court indicted Ayyan in a money laundering case which was previously deferred a number of times. The model, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and maintains she has been purposefully implicated.

On March 14, custom authorities had confiscated her passport after arresting her at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

While in custody, Ayyan made headlines many times; from the ‘VIP treatment’ to ‘transforming the atmosphere’ at Adiala jail.
