As tailors get suffocated with bags of fabric from women who shopped their heart out at lawn sales, last season’s lawn prints are being discarded. Women spend thousands to update their summer wardrobe, and increase their budgets every year to accommodate the must-have lawn prints.
The Express Tribune polled women in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad last month, and found that 49 per cent bought four to six lawn suits each, while 26 per cent bought seven to 15 outfits. Women also buy in bulk. One woman, who bought up to 35 suits this season, said she had shopped for herself, her daughters and members of their family. Textile mills spend millions of rupees on advertising to attract women towards a certain brand. But it isn’t just the lawn season that gets wallets out.

Answers were varied, with 45 per cent spending between Rs10,000 and Rs20,000 on their wardrobe every year and 27 per cent spend Rs1,000 annually. However menswear doesn’t follow the buying pattern of ‘lawn exhibitions’. But men spend a lot of money on their wardrobe as well. Maybe in a couple of years we will see cloth exhibitions targeting men…
