Canvassing for LG polls in Sindh, Punjab ends

Elections will be held tomorrow in Karachi and 12 districts of Punjab

ISLAMABAD/ LAHORE/ KARACHI: Voters in Sindh and Punjab are all set to cast their ballots on Saturday (tomorrow), as the election campaigns for the third and final phase of the local government elections came to an end at the stroke of midnight.

People will go to the polls in six districts of provincial capital Karachi and 12 districts of Punjab. The Election Commission of Pakistan has set up a control room to monitor the electoral process. A total of 16,986,909 voters – 9,447,937 male and 7,539,013 female – will exercise their right of franchise.

The Punjab districts where the people will elect their local body representatives are Layyah, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Jhang, Khushab, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur and Multan, where 14,470 polling stations have been set up.

In Karachi, ballots will be cast in East, South, West, Central, Malir and Korangi districts, where 4,152 polling stations have been set up.

The ECP has finalised all the arrangements. Police and other law enforcement agencies have devised their security strategies to ensure law and order.
