A satellite engineer, Hassan Mateen, was wounded when armed motorcyclists opened indiscriminate fire on a DSNG van of Dawn News near Essa Nagri within the limits of the Aziz Bhatti police station late on Friday. Police registered on Friday a case at the Aziz Bhatti police station on behalf of a channel's cameraman, Omar Shah, against unidentified persons. The police have also put in clause 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act in the FIR.
The police officials termed it a targeted attack but they are waiting for the forensic reports of the empty shells of the 9mm pistol found from the crime scene. "It was not an act of robbery," explained Aziz Bhatti DSP Nasir Lodhi while talking to The Express Tribune. "It was a targeted attack."
The officer said that the police have yet to identify who attacked the DSNG van and why, but it seems that it could be one among the series of targeted attacks on media personnel.

This was not the first such incident to have occurred in the metropolis as earlier the DSNG vans of the different news channels have come under attack.
The Express Media group has also lost three of its staffers in an armed attack on the Express News channel DSNG van while it was stationed at a regular spot at Board Office Chowrangi in Nazimabad on January 17, last year.
