“There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, to see if we could become something more. So when they needed us, we could fight the battles that they never could.”

In many ways, the opening line in the new trailer for Avengers: Infinity War pretty much sums up everything the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been building towards up till now. After 10 years, everything comes full-circle, so to speak.

The ever-growing threat of the franchise’s big bad Thanos (Josh Brolin) has finally come to the fore and stopping him would require nothing less than the entire pantheon of superheroes that inhabit the MCU, as evidenced by the action-packed first trailer.

Set four years after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Infinity War follows all the MCU’s superheroes banding together to stop Thanos as he attempts to complete his infinity gauntlet and take over the universe. The explosive new trailer foreshadows the threat of this new villain as he hunts for the remaining infinity stones, and warns the Avengers of the impending doom that awaits them.

The Avengers are seen battling on different fronts, with half in Wakanda (homeland of the Black Panther) and the rest in New York, all in an attempt to save the earth and perhaps, even more importantly, the universe.

The trailer even teases some unlikely team-ups that fans were undoubtedly clamouring to see! Iron Man and Doctor Strange are seen together trying to save New York, while Captain America and Black Panther are together in Wakanda, along with Black Widow and Bucky.

The trailer even promises the addition of the Guardians of the Galaxy, as they meet Thor, who was last seen in space following the events of Thor: Ragnarok.

The Russo brothers take the helm again in their second MCU outing, after Captain America: Civil War. The cast of this film seemingly includes every famous person ever heard of, with big names like Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Pratt, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Holland, Paul Rudd, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper and Josh Brolin.

And this is just the main cast!

Judging by its powerful trailer, Avengers: Infinity War seems like the superhero crossover to end all superhero crossovers. Let’s cross our fingers and hope it lives up to the hype.

Avengers: Infinity War hits cinemas May 4, 2018.
