KARACHI: The winner and the losing finalist at the end of the 7th NBP Ranking Snooker Championship, which will be played from October 7-13 at the NBP Sports Complex, will qualify for the IBSF World Championship, scheduled to take place later this year.

The announcement was made in a press briefing of the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA).

In all, 31 cueists will be participating in the event in eight groups. Two players from each group will progress to the knockout stages.

The IBSF World Championship will take place in Egypt from November 10-21.

Hamza Akbar is currently leading the national rankings but cannot play in the IBSF events for two years as he has moved into the professional circuit.

It should be recalled here that Hamza was unable to participate in the recently concluded IBSF World Team and 6-Red Championships as well, and the PBSA had to field alternative players.

Raheem, Saqib to go for IBSF U18 event

Pakistan’s young cueists Abdul Raheem and Mohammad Saqib will fly out to Russia on Friday to appear in the first ever IBSF U18 World Championship to be played in St Petersburg from October 3-11.

The event will officially explode into action from October 4.

PBSA President Alamgir Sheikh will accompany the duo to Russia and is hopeful that the two players will do well in the inaugural junior world event.
