US, UN term attack on PAF camp a 'reprehensible act'

No country has suffered more at the hands of terrorists than Pakistan, says US State Department

A day after an attack on the Pakistan Air Force camp in Peshawar which killed at least 29, the United States condemned the attack and termed it a 'reprehensible act', Radio Pakistan reported.

Offering condolences to the government and people of Pakistan, United Nations also condemned the attack for which Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Khorasani group claimed responsibility.

During a daily briefing in Washington, the US State Department spokesperson Mark Toner stated "No country has suffered more at the hands of terrorists and extremists than Pakistan."

He further added that US supports Pakistan's continued struggle against such extremist forces.

Earlier on Friday, at least 29 people, including an army captain, were killed as militants attacked a heavily-guarded Pakistan Air Force base in Badhaber area on the outskirts of Peshawar.

Of the 29 dead, 16 PAF soldiers were killed in a mosque as they offered morning prayers. Seven other PAF soldiers were killed in a barrack near the mosque. “A captain died leading the counter-attack against raiders and two soldiers were also killed,” DG ISPR said.
